Kihei Caffe at Maui Coast represents the latest evolution of a beloved local institution—following the original location just blocks away and a second outpost in Lahaina, also designed by our team. This third iteration builds on a familiar foundation while introducing a renewed expression of the brand’s “funky fresh” spirit, rooted in community and shaped by the vibrant energy of Maui.
Inspired by the café’s menu—rich with locally sourced produce and bold island flavors—the design translates this freshness into a layered architectural experience. Warm wood elements, ribbed and slatted textures, and handcrafted detailing establish a natural, tactile palette, while saturated colors and custom mural work bring a playful, graphic vibrancy to the space.
Indoor and outdoor dining areas flow seamlessly, supported by operable openings, generous daylight, and a breezy material language that reflects Kihei’s coastal climate.
At its core, the design reflects Kihei Caffe’s enduring culture—welcoming, lively, and unmistakably local. The result is a space that feels both familiar and new, capturing the character of a long-standing favorite while continuing to evolve with its community.
